Mark W. Sheldon, Obituary (1928)

Mark W. Sheldon, 86-year-old veteran of the Civil War, died last night at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Frank B. Staats, 3013 Washington street, following an illness from complications induced by old age.

The deceased is survived in addition to Mrs. Staats, by one other daughter, Mrs. Anna F. Donoho, of Lincoln City, Del., and two sons, Pemberton B. Sheldon, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Edgar V. Sheldon, of Stroudsburg Pa., 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Mr. Sheldon who was a retired farmer, was born in Haddonfield, N.J. but moved when still a young man to this State, where he had since resided.  During the Civil War he was stationed at Fort Delaware as a private in the First Delaware Regiment.

Services will be conducted at 3 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Staats, with the Rev. E. W. McDowell, pastor of Eastlake M. E. Church, officiating.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral.  Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery.
