Samuel Sheldon, Death Notice (1871)

[This is the death notice for Samuel Sheldon, published in The British Colonist in Port Victoria, British Columbia – 9 Jul 1871]

DEATH. – Samuel Sheldon, a native of Canada, aged 43 years, died at the Royal Hospital yesterday morning.  The funeral will take place to-morrow.

Additional Notes: In 1871 there was a “Royal Hospital” in both Victoria (on Pandora St) and New Westminster (corner of 4th & Agnes), British Columbia.  As the newspaper was published in Port Victoria, we would assume that the Royal Hospital mentioned was the one in that city.  However, it doesn’t state it specifically and Samuel’s children would later say that he died in New Westminster.  As the accounts conflict, and the information is not specific, at this time we can only confirm that he died in British Columbia until something more comes to light.
