Why can’t I login to the Family Tree?2022-06-11T07:41:59-04:00

The FamilyTree – which is accessed from our Main Menu – does display a login button.  If you click on it, you will not get any response or special access.  The software we are using to create, maintain, and display our Family Tree has some built-in features that we cannot change, such as the login button.  Only administrators of the Family Tree can actually use the Login.

However, there is no information on our Family Tree that is hidden.

Can You Tell Me More about DNA Testing for Sheldons?2022-02-05T07:18:06-05:00

There is so much to say about DNA and how you can use it in your genealogy research on your Sheldon line.  We do have information on this site about DNA, and more information will likely be added. If you have specific questions about DNA testing and would like to speak to a member of the Sheldon Genealogy Team about it, consider joining one of our free weekly Zoom chats.  You will certainly get your questions answered, and don’t be surprised if you start to make friends with some distant Sheldon cousins.

Who is Sheldon Genealogy?2022-08-22T11:40:29-04:00

We are a team of volunteers that want to provide you with information and guidance on your search for Sheldon (or Shelden) ancestors.  Sheldon Genealogy is a not-for-profit independent organization. You can read more about the Team on the Who We Are page.

My Sheldon ancestors are not in your family tree. How do I add them?2022-08-23T13:17:24-04:00

We do not allow direct additions to our family tree at this time. But we would like to add your Sheldons to the tree. In order to maintain accuracy and integrity, a team member at Sheldon Genealogy will gladly work with you and get your ancestors added. Starting the process is easy – just go to our Submissions page, fill out the form, submit it, and a member of our team will get back in touch with you.

How much does your membership cost?2022-04-01T18:18:56-04:00

We do not charge for the information on our site. Anyone can browse our website for free.

This site is operated and funded by the donations and the small commissions we may receive from affiliate links.

How do I get Notifications of New Blog Posts?2022-04-01T18:22:18-04:00

To enhance our website, we have implemented a new notification email system.  Once you have logged into the website and set up an account, you will automatically be alerted when a new post has been added to our blog.

You should also join our mailing list. The link for that is at the top of every page of our website. The system also allows the Sheldon Genealogy Team to send important announcements to everyone on the list. While we do not anticipate a large number of announcements being sent, you may receive one sporadically.

When is the next Zoom Meeting?2022-04-01T18:23:32-04:00

What is it with the ducks on your site?2022-04-01T18:45:59-04:00

Why ducks?

There are two Sheldon coats of Arms both with three ducks. The duck symbolizes “resourceful.” We thought it the perfect symbol to emphasize our mission to provide Sheldon resources. The quote below, though interesting, is not accurate since the Sheldon of Beoley predates 1676. For more about the Sheldon Coat of Arms, see Kelly Wheaton’s blog post.

“The Sheldrake, often used in the Sheldon Coat of Arms as a heraldic charge, is believed to signify the ‘shield’ meaning of the Sheldon surname because of the shield-like band across the duck’s breast.

“It seems that the sheldrake was introduced into heraldry for the express purpose, or for the express pleasure of one Sheldon who was Mayor of London in 1676.”

Do I need to have an account to use the website?2023-03-11T09:05:45-05:00

No, you do not need an account to access our website and you do not need to log in to look around or to access our research information.

We recommend getting a free account so you will receive notifications of new blog posts and also to join our mailing list so you will receive important general announcements. You will find both of these options at the top of every page on our website.

How do I get help understanding my DNA test results?2021-12-29T08:01:09-05:00

You can use our Contact page to send a message to us. Your message will be forwarded to the appropriate volunteer, and they will get back to you,

Make sure you have entered the correct e-mail address in your message.

Since we are an organization staffed by volunteers, it may take a few days to hear back from us. Check your spam folder if you do not receive a response.

How much does it cost to attend your Zoom meetings?2021-12-29T08:27:13-05:00

We do not charge anything to attend a Zoom meeting. There is no membership required and no entrance fee. Simply sign in and feel free to ask questions and join in the conversation.

Do we need an FAQ section on the Website?2022-04-01T18:57:20-04:00

The reason we added a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section on the Sheldon Genealogy website is to provide support to our users and friends. Rather than needing to write to us, hopefully, you can find an answer to your immediate question here.

If not, please use our contact page to send a question. Someone from our team of volunteers will get back to you as quickly as possible.
