  DS 20May2021 - the order and birth dates of Gideon's children should be taken with a grain of salt. The Rev. H. O. Sheldon tried to put children in birth order when possible. For this family he put the children in the following order: Samuel, Elisabeth, Gideon, Jeremiah, John, Hannah, Thomas, Rachel, and Sylvanus. But he did not include any dates. We know from records of PIttsford, Vermont that in 1777 Gideon was 15 and Thomas was 13. There could not have been three other siblings born between them. We also have a brith date for Jeremiah later in 1768. The children have been spaced out and these dates may be changed as additional information is discovered. DS 18Jan2022 - we now have the order of children as follows. 1. Samuel b 1761 (age 44 in the 1805 census in Canada); 2. Gideon born 1762, age 15 when captured in 1777; 3. Thomas born 1764, age 13 when captured; 4. Betsey born 1766, no specific date but was noted as the eldest daughter in her fathers Will; 5. Jeremiah born 1768, age 84 at the time of his death in 1852; 6. Sylvanus, born 1771 - a random guess, died very young according to the 1855 Sheldon Magazine; 7. Hannah, born 1776 according to the 1850 and 1860 census; 8. Rachel born 1780 according to the 1850 census; and finally 9. John born 1782, no specific dates but was given a Trustee to handle his inheritance in his fathers Will dated 1798, which would not be needed if John was over 18 at that time - so must have been born after 1780.
